Community Development

The mission of the Community Development Department is to maintain or find ways to improve the characteristics of the City of Brooksville that make it aesthetically, economically, and developmentally attractive to residents, businesses, and property owners. The Department strives to preserve Brooksville’s unique way of life and enhance it at the same time to ensure the protection of property and continuation of a high standard of living within the corporate City limits for current and future residents.

These goals are met on a daily basis as the Community Development Department assumes the responsibility of providing assistance to City property owners and developers relating to land use, property development, addressing, zoning, concurrency requirements, land use code requirements, and comprehensive plan standards, as well as long term planning. The Department provides assistance and guidance to individuals with questions pertaining to petition requirements for subdivision plats, development site plans, special exceptions, variances, zoning changes, property annexations, comprehensive plan amendments, and rights-of-way vacations, among others.

Planning
Welcome to the City of Brooksville Comprehensive Plan. While this document is intended, in the short term, to address the years from 2017 to 2027, the Plan establishes Goals, Objectives and Policies designed to shape the City through and beyond the year 2050. The Plan represents the collective ideas and dreams of Brooksville stakeholders who participated in the Brooksville Vision Foundation’s meetings from 2011 through 2015. This document describes the preferred future of Brooksville expressed by stakeholders. These stakeholders spoke with a strong voice about what they value in their community and what they want for its future – safe, walkable neighborhoods and parks, a thriving downtown district that maintains the historic charm that has existed for decades, a strong educational foundation for Brooksville’s youth, vibrant local business districts, and excellent housing and employment opportunities throughout the City.

Building Division
The City of Brooksville Building Division, located at 201 Howell Avenue, handles all building permit activity including applications and inspections. The Building Official is Mark Vasquez and the Permit Coordinator is Ron Heugel. The Building Division operates under the oversight of the Community Development Department.
