This position requires operation of and operator maintenance of collection and transportation vehicles of solid waste and/or recyclable materials using a rear-loader garbage truck, mobile-boom truck, recycle truck, and street sweeping vehicles.  The employee will be required to safely operate a solid waste vehicle in close, confined locations as well as in the presence of other vehicles and pedestrians.  Work schedules will vary and may include nights, weekends and/or holidays and call outs in emergencies.  Position is supervised by the Sanitation Operations Supervisor or designee.

A Sanitation Collector loads/unloads solid waste/recyclables to and from sanitation vehicles.  The person in this job will be expected to safely perform manual tasks with speed and efficiency.  This person works under the daily authority of a Sanitation Operator (vehicle driver) who will assign duties needed to complete daily collection routes.  This person will be responsible for cleaning and maintenance of sanitation vehicles and dumpsters.  Job performance will be based on compliance with established guidelines, satisfactory performance of required job duties and schedules set by the Department.  This person must be capable of being insured under the City’s insurance carrier.  A person in this job will perform other duties as necessary and assigned.
